Sadly homosexuality is still an issue for some. There are those who object to homosexuality on religious grounds, while others have issue with the state for having policies keeping homosexuality segregated in places where it has authority, such as in the armed forces. Simply put, the arguments for denying Liberty to those who identify as homosexuals is as flawed as denying rights to any other group, such as women or people of color. There is no justification to hate any group of people, and it is especially not prudent for a government to get involved in resolving personal hatred.
Marriage is religious ceremony and religion is an individual choice; religious teaching that homosexuality is immoral is perfectly within the right of the individual maintain. However, the state has no business sanctifying personal relationships between two consenting adults, religious or otherwise. The state should only become involved in relationships if one person has actually damaged another or another?s property. If the separation between church and state is to be taken seriously, the state has no jurisdiction to promote one religious viewpoint over any other. We as a society must be satisfied leaving the individual to believe and live with the inherent contradictions that reside in out-casting a whole group of people.
